World Poetry Day celebration to be held in Stafford
By Livia Gregor 12th Mar 2026
A day of live poetry readings and music will be held at Stafford Cricket and Hockey club to commemorate World Poetry Day on 21 March.
Hosted by Stafford poet and filmmaker David Braziel, the event will consist of several workshops exploring music and writing from across the globe.
David Braziel was a finalist in the BBC national short story competition, 'End of Story' in 2004 and won the Belfast Book Festival poetry slam in 2014.
The celebration has been organised by Writer Types, a writing group based in Stafford, who meet monthly at The Swan Hotel.
'The Many Voices of One World' workshop invites attendees to "Hear the strange beauty of live poetry from Somalia, Poland, Persia and more, simultaneously translated on-screen to captivate you with their meaning."
There will be a workshop from Charles Kouasseu, which focuses on storytelling culture in Cameroon, and from Northern Irish poet Cathy Carson who takes listeners from "tragedy to joy with her mesmeric delivery."
The event will begin at 12:30pm and Asian Pakistani-style food will be provided outside the venue by Zainz Catering.
Tickets can be purchased via the Writer Types website.
