Stafford chippy could be transformed into one-bed flat

A fish and chip shop on Silkmore Lane could be converted into a new home.
An application was submitted to Stafford Borough Council proposing the "conversion of hot food takeaway" into a "one-bedroom ground floor flat".
According to the application: "The site currently comprises a dwellinghouse with an attached single-storey extension that has historically been used as a fish and chips takeaway.
"While physically connected to the main dwelling, the extension has operated independently as a commercial unit."
It is claimed that no extensions, additional storeys or increase in height would be involved in the conversion of the shop.

The proposed flat would have a living room, kitchen-dining area and bathroom with a WC.
The application states: "The internal layout has been designed to provide a comfortable living environment with appropriate separation of spaces, good natural light, and adequate ventilation."
The aim would be to make almost no alterations to the outside of the building apart from the addition of a new front entrance which the proposal claims, would "be designed to be sympathetic to the existing building and surrounding residential character."
Vehicle access to the property is sufficient and would remain unchanged.
The application states that the conversion would be beneficial because it "makes efficient use of an existing building" and "preserves the scale and character of the site".
The proposal has had positive feedback from people living nearby with one neighbour stating the conversion would be an improvement as "chip shop smells currently come from the property, depending on wind direction."
