‘Stare into the eyes of Jack the Ripper’ at the Gatehouse Theatre this April
By Livia Gregor 29th Mar 2026
A live stage show, which claims to shed new light on the identity of notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper, will be visiting the Gatehouse Theatre on 15 April.
Created by award-winning producer and broadcaster Steve Morgan, An Evening with Jack the Ripper, promises to be a night of "immersive storytelling", taking the audience back in time to 19th century London.
Speaking about what the show will entail, Steve said: "We will create the world and immerse ourselves in the era of 1888, that autumn of terror.
"We will follow the lost footsteps of the victims in pursuit of a killer.
"At the end of the night, I am convinced that the audience at the Stafford Gatehouse will stare into the eyes of Jack the Ripper.
"The only people to have previously done so are his victims, but the audience at the Gatehouse will live to tell the tale."
Steve's interest in the case was piqued, in 1988, when aged 15, he saw 'Jack the Ripper', a miniseries starring Michael Caine.
He continues to be fascinated by the identity of the killer and alongside a career in TV and radio, Steve has his own Jack the Ripper tour in Whitechapel.

Commenting on why the case and the fate of the victims resonates with people today, Steve said: "As well as being a story about East London, it's a story about Britain.
"It's a story about the [poverty-stricken] conditions that a number of people were living in, not just in London.
"People were living in conditions such as that in Staffordshire, in the northwest, in Lancashire, Yorkshire, Scotland and beyond."
"There were roughly 2,000 workhouses across Britain at that time.
"It's something that is easily relatable on a national scale.
"It is the era, the Victorian era because it is still around us.
"It's within touching distance."
Tickets are available for purchase on the Gatehouse Theatre website.
