Stafford planning roundup: Chippy, tipis and a Victorian barn
By Livia Gregor 15th Mar 2026
Here are the most notable planning stories from the past week.
Chippy could be getting a makeover
An application was submitted to Stafford Borough Council proposing the "conversion of hot food takeaway" into a "one-bedroom ground floor flat".
According to the application: "The site currently comprises a dwellinghouse with an attached single-storey extension that has historically been used as a fish and chips takeaway.
"While physically connected to the main dwelling, the extension has operated independently as a commercial unit."
The Tipis that could be torn down
A local glamping site may be forced to pull down a number of tipis following a decision by council planners.
Located at Ellenhall Park Farm in Stafford, the site has seen a retrospective planning application refused by Stafford Borough Council.
The site had applied for temporary permission for six tipis and a composting toilet, saying they would have been in use from early May to the end of October.
Council officers visited the site last year and found three of the tipis had already been put up on the site.
Grade two listed Victorian barn
A historic Dutch barn in Tixall, Stafford could be converted into new houses if plans are signed off by council planners.
An application was submitted to Stafford Borough Council to convert an "existing listed Dutch Barn to form two new dwellings".
A separate application has been submitted for another two homes on the same site, as well as a detached garage.
