Stafford farm shop owners win lifetime achievement award
By Livia Gregor 16th Mar 2026
The owners of Canalside Farm were awarded The Lifetime Achievement Award at the Farm Retail Association Awards on Wednesday (11 March).
Chris and Wendy Barton purchased the farm in 1983 and have been providing local businesses with fresh produce, including homegrown fruits and vegetables, ever since.
Over the years, the site has grown, with the Canalside Farm Shop, one of the first to open in Staffordshire, boasting a butcher's, a deli and an artisan bakery.
Located near Shugborough Hall, the farm regularly hosts craft workshops, markets and children's activities as well as seasonal strawberry and pumpkin picking.
Visitors can also enjoy refreshments or afternoon tea in the riverside cafe.
Canalside Farm posted on social media: "We are super excited to announce that last night at the Farm Retail Association Awards, Chris and Wendy, aka our Mum and Dad/ Nana and Grandad, won the Lifetime Achievement Award and we could not be prouder of them!
"The Lifetime Achievement Award recognises the dedication, leadership and impact of individuals who have helped shape the Farm Retail industry and after 43 years we are so pleased that all of their hard work and commitment has been recognised in this way.
"Chris and Wendy have dedicated decades to our business and rooted it in honesty, quality and support for our local community."
