A midwife from Stafford has published a book to help expectant parents avoid wasting money on baby products they are unlikely ever to need.

Freya Mahal, a midwife with over 20 years of experience, was inspired to share her knowledge and expertise after seeing many parents feel pressured to buy expensive, supposedly must-have products for their new baby.

The mother of two is also the founder of Expecting Antenatal Classes, which supports families across Staffordshire.

Baby without Bankruptcy aims to reassure parents that they don't need to purchase every product on the market to be prepared for their newborn.

It explores common spending traps such as expensive travel systems, designer baby bags, changing tables, wipe warmers, excessive newborn clothes, nursery furniture and gadgets which are often promoted by influencers on social media.

Following the book's advice could save people up to £16,785, according to Freya's calculations.

Freya said: "Having a baby is emotional enough, without feeling like you have to buy half the internet before your baby arrives.

"Marketing teams know exactly how to pull on your heartstrings, poke your insecurities, and make you feel like a bad parent if you don't buy their product".

"After more than 20 years as a midwife, I've seen what families actually need and what often ends up shoved in a cupboard, barely touched.

"This book is not about making parents feel guilty.

"It's about giving them permission to step back, think clearly and spend their money where it genuinely helps.

The book is available from today (17 June) on Kindle and paperback.
