A man who last month burgled a house before robbing a shop with a stolen knife in the same day has been imprisoned for six years.

On Thursday 5 February, Christopher Boyd, 43 of Lichfield Road in Stafford, was found guilty of robbery, having a knife in a public place, burglary of a house, and theft.

Between 2:20am and 2:51am on Saturday 3 January 2026, Boyd (along with a male accomplice) was recorded on several doorbell cameras trying doors on the Weddington estate, Nuneaton.

Boyd entered one house and stole alcohol, food, vapes, bank cards, a driving license, a checked tea towel, and a knife.

They also took a set of car keys, which they used to make off with a black Mercedes belonging to the owner of the house.

This was caught on a nearby doorbell camera at 3:46am.

At just before 8am on the same day, we were called to a shop on Lutterworth Road in Nuneaton, where two men (including Boyd) were committing a robbery at knifepoint.

They were still present when police arrived and were detained and arrested.

Boyd was wearing a high-visibility jacket which was identified as having belonged to the victim of the burglary earlier that morning, who had called the police shortly after 8am. It had been left in the back of the car. 

In addition to six years in prison, Boyd will be required to pay a victims' surcharge of £228.

Investigating officer DC Lynch said "This was a very swift turnaround from detecting the offence to the sentencing.

"Identifying Boyd and linking him to the burglary was made much easier by the presence of home security cameras, and we are grateful to the neighbours of the victim for providing this footage for us.

"Our thanks also goes to the victims for being supportive of our investigation throughout, and we hope they are satisfied with the result. 

"We hope that six years will be sufficient time for Boyd to consider what his future should look like, and where he is going from here."
