Stafford issued with ‘extreme heat’ warning by Met Office
By Livia Gregor 22nd Jun 2026
Stafford has been issued with an 'extreme heat' warning by the Met Office.
Temperatures could reach over 30 degrees Celsius and remain above 20 degrees overnight.
A second extreme heat warning has been issued for later in the week with other areas of the country set to experience heat of around 40 degrees.
It is likely that the heatwave will lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.
This could lead to adverse health effects for those vulnerable to extreme heat.
It is important that people support vulnerable relatives and friends and help them to keep hydrated.
For the wider population, there is a risk of sunburn or heat exhaustion (dehydration, nausea, fatigue) and other heat related illnesses.
To reduce these risks, the Met Office recommends that people "drink plenty of fluids, keep out of the sun and avoid any exercise between 11am-3pm when the sun is strongest and close curtains in rooms that face the sun.
"If you are going out, take water with you, stay in the shade, wear sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat."
There is also an increased likelihood of water safety incidents with more people visiting coastal areas, lakes and rivers.
Road, rail and air travel could be delayed, with potential welfare issues for those who experience long delays.
