Refurbishment of Wolseley Canal Bridge to begin next week
By Livia Gregor 30th Jun 2026
Renovation work, set to take 24 weeks, will begin on a canal bridge on the A51 near Little Haywood on Monday 6 July.
The scheme to improve the Wolseley Canal Bridge, which was built in 1955, will include installation of a new bridge beam, re-waterproofing the bridge deck, repairing walls and resurfacing.
To ensure safety and make sure that the scheme can be carried out as efficiently as possible, two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place on the bridge for 20 weeks.
A full closure of a 60-metre section of Bishton Lane from the A51 to Bellamour Lane is also needed for 24-weeks.
Those living or with property in the area will continue to have access to the closed section.
People wanting to access Bishton Lane can do so via the Bellamour Lane junction.
As the refurbishment begins to reach its conclusion, some overnight closures will be necessary for resurfacing.
Dates for these closures will be publicised closer to the time.
The Bishton Lane section closure will be in place until 18 December with the temporary traffic signals in place until 20 November.
