‘Longer-term fix’ can’t come soon enough as Sandon Road floods again
By Livia Gregor 18th May 2026
Last week, Sandon Road was closed intermittently to allow new flood prevention measures to be put into action.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the Sandon Road Flooding Taskforce, which is made up of local residents and businesses, Severn Trent, the Environment Agency, Staffordshire County Council, Stafford Borough Council and local MP Leigh Ingham, had been working together to tackle the area's flooding issues.
A non-return valve was fitted by Severn Trent Water which aims to prevent water from flowing back onto the road and limit the number of times the street must close after heavy rainfall.
However, MP Leigh Ingham is keen to reiterate that the valve is part of "interim measures" and the Taskforce are still working hard to find a more permanent solution.

Back in March, the environment agency fitted more than 30 houses on Sandon Road with flood doors, flood‑resistant air bricks and pumps.
Vegetation has been cut down around Sandyford Brook which should also reduce flooding and extra funding has been secured meaning improvements can continue to be made.
Speaking about the valve and vegetation clearance Leigh Ingham said: I'm aware that this is not a total solution to the flooding issues on Sandon Road.
"The Taskforce will continue its work to push for a longer-term fix, but in the meantime, I'm hopeful the interim measures will start to make a difference.
"I will continue to keep residents updated as this work progresses."
The "longer-term fix" can't come soon enough for residents as today (18 May) Sandon Road is again flooded.
