Staffordshire Police are keen to reassure the public following a serious assault near The Castle Golf and Leisure Club last week.

On Thursday 14 May, officers were called to Newport Road, after a man in his 60s was stabbed while walking in the Castlefields area from Redgrave Drive towards Stafford Castle.

The force wants the public to know that they "are working around the clock to investigate the serious assault".

The victim remains in a critical condition in hospital and specialist officers are continuing to support him and his family.

Staffordshire Police said: "We understand the concern this incident has caused within the local community, and we want to reassure residents that a significant and sustained police response is in place.

"There is an increased police presence in the Castlefields area and surrounding neighbourhoods, with officers carrying out patrols, house-to-house enquiries, extensive searches and forensic examinations.

"We want the public to feel safe and confident in their community.

"While incidents of this nature are rare, we recognise the impact they have, and we are taking this extremely seriously."

The suspect is a man thought to be in his mid to late 20s, of potentially of Eastern European heritage, of average build and was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Inspector Dave Rowlands said: "I want to reassure the community that we are doing everything in our power to identify and apprehend those responsible.

"There is a significant policing operation underway, including increased patrols in the area, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.

"We are committed to keeping the public informed and ensuring the safety of our community.

"Your information remains vital to our investigation, and even the smallest detail could make a difference."

Police continue to appeal to anyone who was in the Castlefields area between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday 14 May, or anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward.

A dedicated portal has been created for people to submit relevant information: Public Portal.
