Damning report says Stafford school requires ‘urgent improvement’
By Livia Gregor 31st Mar 2026
A secondary school in Stafford has fallen below the 'expected standard' grade in multiple areas, a public watchdog has found.
Stafford Manor High School received an 'urgent improvement' grade for achievement in a recent Ofsted report.
The school was also issued with 'needs attention' ratings for curriculum and teaching, inclusion and leadership and governance.
In 2023, the school received a 'requires improvement' grade after previously being rated as 'good'.
The report said: "Across the curriculum, pupils do not develop the foundational knowledge and skills they need to be successful.
"The work of too many pupils, particularly disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND, is of poor quality.
"Weaknesses in handwriting, grammar and presentation persist across the curriculum.
"As a result, they are ill-prepared for their next stages of education, employment or training."
However, the school did meet the 'expected standard' for attendance and behaviour and personal development and wellbeing, receiving some positive comments.
In the report, it said: "Pupils report that if bullying occurs, staff deal with it effectively.
"The enrichment offer is broad and participation is rising.
"Activities including drama, yarn, tennis and football enhance pupils' experiences and strengthen the school community."
The inspector said the school must take steps to:
- Ensure that all pupils, including those who are "disadvantaged", are supported to "achieve their full potential" and qualifications they need
- Make sure the curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of all pupils
- Teachers should be on the lookout for pupils with issues with handwriting, grammar and spelling so these problems can be addressed
- Work to improve attendance should be maintained
Stafford Manor High School was approached for comment but did not reply.
