Heritage Open Days

The popular festival which celebrates history across England is returning this month.

Here are places open in and around Stafford this weekend:

• Stafford Quaker Meeting House (Saturday 19 September)
• All Saints' Church Sandon (Sunday 20 September)
• St Chad's (Friday 18 and 19 September)
• Behind the scenes at the museum stores at Unit G Beacon Business Park (Saturday 19 September)
• Shugborough Estate (Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September)

Saturday 19 September: Alasdair Beckett-King: King of Crumbs

Mock the Week and 8 out of 10 Cats star, Alasdair Beckett-King, is coming to Stafford Gatehouse this weekend.

Beckett-King is well-known for his award-winning stand-up comedy and was once described by Rolling Stone as "Either a genius or a very silly man".

Tickets are £23 with the performance starting at 8pm.

Saturday 19 September: Wolseley at Dusk

This intriguing walk will take participants on a route around the Wolseley Centre with the chance to spot all of the different nocturnal creatures on the reserve.

Taking place after the public have gone home, the walk will begin at the Kingfisher Cafe where people can enjoy a tasty burger (included in the ticket price).

During the event, a guide from the centre will talk attendees through ID tips and how to use bat detectors.

The event is for adults only and people should make sure they are prepared as the walk will go ahead whatever the weather.
