Police are appealing for information after a husband and wife were assaulted in Stafford on New Year's Day (1 January).

At around 2:30am, the victims were approached by a group of five people, described as either teenage boys or young adults, on Greengate Street.

The group then went on to assault the couple.

The man suffered rib fractures and a broken nose and spent some time in hospital before being discharged.

The woman suffered bruises and other minor injuries.
