A teacher in Stafford, who had a six-month long relationship with a pupil, and pretended to be a teenager on social media to chat to young girls, has been banned from teaching for life.

On 13 February 2025, Alexander Webb, 30, a Stafford school teacher, was sentenced to five years and seven months at Stafford Crown Court.

He was convicted of six counts of sexual activity with a child, three counts of sexual communication with a child, five counts of making indecent photographs of a child.

A panel carried out by the Teaching Regulation Agency this month revealed that Webb had pursued a six-month sexual relationship with a child who was a pupil at the same school at which he was a teacher.

The school has not been named.

During this time, he exchanged 39,400 messages with the pupil and had 5,000 Snapchat contacts which included pupils at the school.

The police report stated that Webb used Snapchat to engage in sexualised conversations with teenage girls while pretending to be a teenage boy.

The prohibition order was deemed "proportionate" in this case meaning "that Mr Alexander Webb is prohibited from teaching indefinitely and cannot teach in any school, sixth form college, relevant youth accommodation or children's home in England".

The panel noted that during police interview Webb said he felt a "deep amount of regret and remorse" and that he would have to live with the consequences of his actions and "even more so I am sure those affected do also".

Due to the seriousness of the allegations, he will "not be entitled to apply for restoration of his eligibility to teach".

A report following the panel said: "The panel concluded that Mr Webb demonstrated a complete disregard for the safeguarding and wellbeing of pupils.

"The panel further noted that Mr Webb's inclusion on the Sex Offenders Register for life emphasises the seriousness and gravity of his conduct.

"Similarly, the panel considered that public confidence in the profession could be seriously weakened if conduct such as that found against Mr Webb was not treated with the utmost seriousness when regulating the conduct of the profession.

The panel considered that an ordinary member of the public would recognise the seriousness of the conduct found proved, which fell significantly below the high standards and behaviour expected of teachers."
