Stafford MP reacts to nationalisation of Avanti West Coast- ‘This is about putting people before profit’

Earlier this week, it was announced that the government will take control of Avanti West Coast's services on 7 March 2027.
This comes as part of a wider drive to bring essential services back into public control.
According to the government, "Avanti West Coast passengers have been experiencing frequent disruption on one of the country's busiest routes for years.
"Performance remains behind the industry average, with passengers frequently frustrated by delays and cancellations.
"By bringing AWC's services into public ownership in March 2027, West Coast services will soon be run in the interests of passengers, not private sector shareholders."
It is hoped, following the government takeover, passengers will experience fewer delays and cancellations, faster and more reliable services and a more stable internet connection during their journey.
Stafford train station is currently managed by Avanti West Coast.
Speaking on the upcoming change Leigh Ingham, MP for Stafford, Eccleshall, and the villages said: "I think it's great news that Avanti West Coast services will move into public ownership.
"For Stafford, this is a huge opportunity.
"Our town is one of the best connected in the country and serves as a vital link for commuters, businesses and visitors.
"Reliable rail is essential for our local economy and growth.
"Stafford station is currently managed by Avanti West Coast, but this change provides a clear opportunity to deliver better services, improve reliability and ensure passengers receive high quality customer care.
"For customers using the station things will remain the same, but this is about putting people before profit and building a rail network that benefits Stafford and the wider area."
