Sandon Road flooded again: MP promises to find 'longer-term solution'
By Livia Gregor 13th Mar 2026
Sandon Road has again flooded, just days after MP Leigh Ingham wrote to residents about finding "a longer-term solution" to the street's ongoing flooding issues.
Following heavy rainfall, the area surrounding Morrisons Daily, near Astonfields Industrial Estate, is submerged in water.
Both the garage and the road are flooded.
Flooding frequently occurs due to the area's proximity to Sandyford Brook, a small river which flows into the River Sow.
Leigh Ingham recently wrote in a letter to residents: "The Sandon Road Flooding Taskforce- made up of local residents and businesses, Severn Trent, the Environment Agency, Staffordshire County Council, Stafford Borough Council, and led by me- has been working at pace to push for better interim measures and a longer-term solution."

It was announced, by Leigh Ingham, that a non-return valve will be installed on Sandon Road.
This should prevent water from flowing back onto the road and reduce flood levels especially when there has been heavy rain.
The date for valve installation is yet to be confirmed and will mean that Sandon Road will be closed for around five days.
Leigh Ingham said: "I am as frustrated with the roadworks as all of you, but in this case, I believe it is short term pain for long term gain if it means fewer flood-related closures in the future.
"I am aware that this is not a total solution to the flooding issue on Sandon Road.
"The Taskforce will continue its work to push for a longer-term fix, but in the meantime, I'm hopeful the interim measures will start to make a difference."
Last week, the Environment Agency delivered a flood management scheme to Sandon Road.
More than 30 houses were fitted with flood doors, flood‑resistant air bricks and pumps.
Targeted repointing of brickwork was carried out inside homes to seal potential entry points for water.

These measures aim to prevent water from entering people's homes and minimise damage if flooding does occur.
Will Groves, senior flood risk officer for the Environment Agency, said:
"This scheme provides practical, property‑level resilience measures that will make a real difference to people's lives.
"While we cannot prevent flooding entirely, we can ensure homes are better prepared, more resilient, and able to recover more quickly."
