Petition launched to repaint Eccleshall zebra crossing amid fears for public safety
By Livia Gregor 7th Oct 2026
Almost 100 people have signed a petition to repaint a zebra crossing in Eccleshall.
The petition was started by Eccleshall Parish Cllr Ant Reid, who is also cllr for Coton ward on Stafford Borough Council.
It requests the urgent repainting of "the zebra crossing in Eccleshall and the road paintwork in the immediate area, including roundabouts and other street markings that have become too faded to be useful."
The petition was submitted to Staffordshire County Council, who is responsible for maintaining the county's roads, highways and pedestrian crossings.
Since going live on 1 October, the ePetition has had 93 signatures.
The petition states: "Central Eccleshall suffers from repeated abrasive flooding, with road markings lasting less than in other areas.
"The markings on and in the approach to our zebra crossing are in our opinion dangerously degraded and need urgently repainting, along with the mini roundabouts and other road markings.
"Drivers cannot adequately see the road guidance, and we fear that enforcement issues will occur.
"The paintwork must be repainted before December 2026, in advance of winter storms and to create a safe town centre for pedestrians."
The petition will remain open until 31 October.
