A new website has been launched to help keep people steady on their feet and reduce the risk of falls amongst older people in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
Research has found that around one in ten older people become frightened to leave their home following a fall.
The website aims to prevent falls before they happen by equipping older adults with advice about how to make their homes more safe, improve balance and find support locally.
Part of a wider falls prevention initiative being led by Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB), with support from partners across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care System (ICS),The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Steady On Your Feet website has a quick self-assessment tool.
This allows people to create personalised action plans.
There is also information about the common causes of falls which include poor balance, dizziness, medication or changes in memory.
In Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, between 2024 and 2025, 1,443 people over the age of 65 contacted 999 as the result of a fall meaning the site couldn't have come at a better time.
Only 24% of people return to their previous level of movement and independence after fracturing a bone.
Dr Lorna Clarson, Chief Officer Strategy and Improving Outcomes, NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, said: "The new Steady On Your Feet website for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent offers a wide variety of information and local signposting links to help people make those small changes which can reduce their risk of falls."
Developed in partnership with NHS and public health teams across the UK, Steady On Your Feet has already helped people in other areas of the country.
Mark Easby, Managing Director, Steady On Your Feet, said: "We know how important early action is in preventing falls.
"This platform makes it easier for individuals and communities to get the advice, support and tools they need, in one trusted place.
"We're excited to welcome Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to our growing network of Steady On Your Feet partners".
The website is compatible with phones, tablets and computers.
