A heroin and cocaine dealer has been jailed after more than £100,000 worth of drugs were found after police stopped his car in Stafford.

Anjid Khan, 44, of Handsworth, Birmingham, has been sentenced to six years after he admitted possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply heroin, possession of crack cocaine, driving a motor vehicle dangerously and criminal damage.

Police had information that Khan was travelling in an Audi on the M6 in the early hours of January 26 this year.

His car had links to potential drug supply in the West Midlands area.

Three police cars boxed Khan in while travelling on the northbound carriageway, between junction 14 and junction 15.

He then tried to escape using his vehicle, causing damage to a police car.

Khan was subsequently tasered and bitten by a police dog.

When police search the vechicle they found:

  • Around £15,700 to £16,060-worth of crack cocaine
  • An estimated £16,110 to £22,800-worth of cocaine
  • Heroin, believed to worth £113,700 in street value
  • A set of digital scales

Khan refused to take a breath test in custody and was further arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Police questioned Khan leading to him being charged and later went on to admit the offences at an earlier court hearing.

As part of his sentence, the 44-year old had to forfeit the drugs along with £510.

He also had to pay a financial penalty of £228 and was banned from driving for two years and ordered to take an extended re-test.

Detective Sergeant Claire Rider, from the criminal investigations department (CID), said: "Khan was determined to protect his extensive drugs haul and evade capture, but we weren't prepared to let him get away with it.

"Thankfully, we were able to bring him into custody and build all of the evidence needed to prove the offences in court, leaving him no choice but to confront his actions and plead guilty.

"We are determined to take robust action against those involved in serious and organised crime across Staffordshire, and this is another example of that ongoing commitment."
