Staffordshire MP calls for Reform UK councillor to resign after accused of making racist comments

A Staffordshire MP has called for a Reform UK councillor to resign after she was accused of making racist comments on social media.
Cllr Lynn Dean allegedly made derogatory posts on X about black people and muslims prior to being elected as Staffordshire county councillor for May Bank and Wolstanton.
Adam Jogee, Labour MP for Newcastle, said his constituents deserved better than 'insulting, nasty and mean-spirited nonsense' and called on Cllr Dean to step down.
Anti-racism group Hope Not Hate appears to have uncovered several tweets from an X account bearing Cllr Dean's name which it said were 'abhorrent and plainly racist'.
One post from 2023 claimed that black people had 'more than made up' for what happened to other black people in the past 'with their violence and law breaking'.
Another post from 2024 accused Muslims of 'throwing their weight around'.
In his maiden speech in Parliament in 2024, Mr Jogee told how his maternal grandfather had arrived in the UK from Jamaica 'to serve King and country and to help fight fascism' before settling in Staffordshire, while his dad had come to the country from Zimbabwe and married 'a good Staffordshire woman'.
He said he was 'sad and disturbed' by the comments allegedly made by Cllr Dean, who also represents Knutton on Newcastle Borough Council.
Mr Jogee said: "As elected representatives, those of us who are entrusted to serve the people have a responsibility to represent all those who live, learn and work in our community, whoever they are.
"Staffordshire is a wonderful, ancient county in the heart of our Kingdom.
"It is home to people from all over the world and I am proud to be the third generation of my family to live in, and call, Staffordshire my home.
"Our people contribute, they deliver, they serve and they achieve.
"My constituents deserve leadership not insulting, nasty and mean-spirited nonsense like this that has no place in our community or our United Kingdom.
"Staffordshire County Council should be focused on filling the many, many potholes on our roads, fixing the broken SEND system and addressing the concerns of local people – not having to, once again, explain away behaviour like this. People don't want any more scandal or insults; they want solutions and action.
"If Councillor Dean really cares about our community and wants to serve all those local people who pay their taxes, who follow the rules, who respect our flag, King and United Kingdom – like I do – she should resign and do it now. The people of Newcastle-under-Lyme – and Staffordshire – deserve better."
Cllr Dean and Reform UK have been approached for comment.
