The County Council has announced that 40,000 potholes will be repaired across Staffordshire by the end of March next year.

Defects across the county will be fixed including 14 new crews undertaking the important job of repairing the area's roads.

This comes as part of a £15 million extra investment in highways over the next two years with a specific focus on lower-level potholes which cause issues for many members of the local community.

The investment is also being used to fund innovative ways of fixing potholes such as seeding and urban velocity patching ensuring that highways crews have the correct machinery for the nature and location of each job.

In June, 4,655 defects were repaired across Staffordshire.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Councillor for Strategic Highways said: "The Highways Roadmap that the county council implemented last year is changing how highways operates to ensure maximum efficiency and crucially, improving roads across the county for our residents.

"We're already seeing the benefits of this, from new crews to new technology, and new ways of working to maximise efficiency and ensure more pounds are spent in the ground.

"Our ambitious goal is to fix around 40,000 defects by the end of the year, concentrating on those 'category 3' defects, the ones that do not need an immediate response, but nevertheless can be a nuisance to motorists and residents.

"This represents a 25% increase on the average number fixed across the previous 5 years."

"With this in place, we hope that residents will see a real difference in their communities, and motorists will benefit from better journeys around the county."

A helpful video about the repairs can be seen below.

Martin Murray, Leader of Staffordshire County Council added: "Good roads matter to people, businesses and communities right across Staffordshire.

"We know potholes are one of the biggest frustrations residents raise with us, which is why we are putting in extra investment, extra crews and new technology to tackle more defects, more quickly.

"This is about making sure people can see and feel the difference in their own communities.

"Fixing 40,000 potholes is an ambitious target, but it shows our determination to improve journeys, support local businesses and keep Staffordshire moving."
