In June 2025, Staffordshire County Council launched its very own film office, a venture that has already raised £1.3 million for the county.

Over the past year, Screen Staffordshire has worked with several high profile broadcasters and production companies, helping to highlight the area's profile as a filming destination.

With a database of over 150 filming locations, the film office has hosted location recces for several productions, teaming up with Netflix, Apple TV, the BBC, Channel 4 and Amazon Studios.

Screen Staffordshire was established through the We Are Staffordshire place marketing partnership as a three-year pilot programme and has so far had an economic impact of £1.323 million, generated from an initial investment of £125,000.

Stafford Nub News caught up with Louisa Shaw, Head of Place Marketing for We Are Staffordshire, to find out more about how the film office benefits the local community and economy.

Louisa said: "TV and film crews come with money.

"They stay in hotels.

"They want to use local suppliers, make-up artists, set designers, joiners, caterers, you name it.

"They want to use and spend locally so it creates short-term local jobs for skilled people.

"If they're [film crews] hiring assets, if they go to a stately home in the area or even a warehouse in the area and build their set within that warehouse, there is a rentable fee attached to that so it brings in money.

"It's worth noting that this is quite an innovative piece of work and it is funded for the three-year pilot that it's on for by Staffordshire County Council.

"We've been able to show that we've bought in money for council-owned buildings and assets.

"It's about raising wider income and wider economic benefit for the hotels and businesses and companies that are based here.

Screen Staffordshire has facilitated productions such as 'Murder Before Evensong', 'Motorway Cops: Catching Britain's Speeders' and 'The Jury'.

Louisa tells me that Screen Staffordshire is currently involved in several exciting, high-profile productions including "major TV shows", popular in both the UK and the USA.

Unfortunately, no further details can be revealed currently but some exciting announcements will be coming soon.

Louisa continued: "I think it's really important for people to feel proud of where they're from.

"There's good things and bad things about every place but I think it's really important that people are able to tell their story and feel proud of where they live.

"Whilst certainly in its early infancy [Screen Staffordshire], we're not going to have the control over what stories are necessarily shot here, but in time, if there is the opportunity to tell stories that are about Staffordshire, in Staffordshire, about our history and our heritage, that would be really wonderful.

"That for me, I think, is really important and really powerful, but it comes back to pride.

"Who isn't proud of seeing where they're from on the telly?"
