Stafford’s favourite pub: Nub News readers have their say
By Livia Gregor 16th Mar 2026
Last week, we asked our readers to vote for their favourite Stafford pub.
The social media poll was open for 48 hours and the votes have now been counted.
We are pleased to announce that the winner of Stafford's Best Pub, according to our readers, is The Bird in Hand.
Just opposite St Mary's, The Bird in Hand is a cosy, local pub offering comfort food and real ale.
The boozer was refurbished in 2017 and boasts a large, outdoor seating area, perfect for catching up with friends on a summer's day.

Approached for comment about their victory, a spokesperson for The Bird in Hand said: "We are very proud to accept this result, on behalf of ourselves, Terry and Dee and all our staff we grateful to be recognised for all our hard work."
Other honourable mentions include The Ye Olde Rose and Crown, The Bear and Market Vaults.
One reader said The Bird in Hand was their winner because "The staff and management are lovely, and it's a welcoming place.
"Especially in winter, with the fires.
"It is the only pub in Stafford that I am happy to go in on my own."

Another said of the pub: "Fantastic staff, brilliant atmosphere and fabulous food.
"Can't be beaten."
A third commented: "Bird in Hand without a doubt."
