A Stafford man has been jailed for over a decade after setting fire to a woman and leaving her with "life-changing injuries".

Reece Brivitt, 32, was sentenced to 11-years-and-nine-months at Stafford Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday 17 September) after he admitted Section 18 - wounding with intent and arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

"Brivitt subjected his victim to a cruel attack, which has left her with life-changing injuries."

Officers were called to a block of flats in Milton Grove on 22 October 2025 following reports of a fire.

When police arrived, they discovered that Brivitt had poured vodka and petrol over a woman and set her on fire.

The victim suffered serious burns to her chest and legs and was taken to hospital.

She has since been discharged.

As part of yesterday's sentencing, Brivitt was also served with an indefinite restraining order against the woman.

Detective Constable Jessica Scott, of CID South, who worked on the case, said: "Brivitt subjected his victim to a cruel attack, which has left her with life-changing injuries.

"The incident not only threatened the life of the victim, but of all those who were in the flats at the time.

"Thanks to the swift actions of firefighters from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was extinguished quickly, preventing further injuries.

"I hope this conviction offers some closure to the victim and shows that we are committed to taking robust action against those responsible for such offences across Staffordshire."

Delivery Group Manager Mark Walchester, from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Crews worked quickly to minimise the risk posed to those in the flat block during this incident and to ensure the fire was extinguished as quickly as possible.

"Fires in flat blocks and housing in multiple occupancy have the potential to devastate lives and I'm pleased we were able to minimise harm as much as possible during this particular incident."
