A Stafford man has been jailed after launching a vicious and prolonged assault on his ex-partner.

In January, Jack Denny, 33, of Beaconside in Stafford, attacked the survivor inside her home.

Staffordshire Police said: "We were first called to the address after the survivor managed to send a photo of her injuries to a family member, asking for help.

"At that stage, she had been assaulted repeatedly by Denny while inside the house.

"She tried to run off at one point but was stopped by Denny and dragged back inside the house, where he then continued to attack her and threaten her with a knife.

"After subjecting her to the abuse, Denny went to sleep.

"He woke up to officers arresting him and was brought into custody."

On 2 September, Denny was jailed for 10-years-and-two-months at Stafford Crown Court.

He was also given a 15-year restraining order.

He admitted false imprisonment, wounding / inflicting grievous bodily harm, threats to kill and intentional suffocation.

Detective Constable Georgia Wiley, from CID, who worked on the case said: "Denny could not dent the bravery and resilience of the survivor in this case.

"It is because of her strength that we were able to build all of the evidence needed to bring him to justice.

"I'd urge anyone suffering from domestic abuse to get in touch with us and seek support.

"Together, we can work to prevent harm and push for the toughest possible punishment in court for those responsible for these offences in Staffordshire."
