The planned resident doctors' strike due to begin today (Monday 15 June) has been called off.

A resident doctors' strike that was due to take place between Monday 15 June and Friday 19 June has been called off following a last‑minute offer from Government, which will be put to BMA members for a vote.

A spokesperson for University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) said: "This is positive news for patients, and services across UHNM will continue to run as normally as possible in the coming days."

UHNM explained that most appointments and procedures will go ahead as planned and teams will contact people directly if their care has been affected or needs to be arranged.

The trust also urged locals to continue using NHS services in the usual way. Use NHS 111 online or call 111 for urgent health advice and continue to attend A&E or call 999 in an emergency.

A UHNM spokesperson added: "Although the strike has been cancelled, some services may still be slightly affected as we restore activity that had been stood down in preparation.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding."
