Earlier this year, it was announced that a new Irish bar would be opening in Stafford.

Shannon's Irish Bar began sharing content on social media back in March, promising to bring live music, sport and "great craic" to the people of Stafford.

It was reported that the bar would be taking up residence on Newport Road in the left-hand side of the building known as AURA.

Despite this, on Monday (3 August), it was revealed that difficulties behind the scenes have led to a delay in when the boozer will be able to open its doors to customers.

A Facebook post from the Shannon's team apologised for not providing updates sooner and explained that around 70% of the refurbishment work has now been completed with new signage ready to be installed.

However, after discussions with the venue's landlord about running costs it has become clear that the premises are not "financially viable as a long-term home for Shannon's."

They continued: "We completely understand why many of you have been frustrated and disappointed that Shannon's hasn't opened yet.

"Please believe us when we say nobody is more disappointed than we are.

"We've invested a huge amount of time, money and passion into this project, so having to make this decision has been incredibly difficult."

The team are now searching for new premises in Stafford with more realistic running costs.

They added: "This setback doesn't mean we're giving up on bringing Shannon's Irish Bar to Stafford—it simply means finding the right home for it.

"We remain fully committed to making Shannon's a reality and we'd rather take a little longer to get it right than rush into a location that simply isn't sustainable.

"We can't wait for the day we finally welcome you all through the doors of Shannon's Irish Bar and we hope you'll continue to support us while we find the right location to make that happen."
