A man has been jailed for dangerous driving after doing a U-turn on the M6.

At around 8am on 13 July, Dean Romain, from Manchester, was driving a silver Volkswagen Passat on the M6 southbound, near junction 13 in Stafford when he was seen doing a U-turn on the carriageway.

The 39-year-old appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday (14 July) where he admitted dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was handed an 11-month jail term, will be disqualified from driving for three years and four months upon his release, and was ordered to pay a surcharge of £187.

Police managed to follow the vehicle and Romain was arrested a short time later.

The vehicle was subsequently recovered.

Speaking following sentencing, Sergeant Richard Kimberley, from the road crime team, said: "Romain is clearly a highly dangerous and reckless driver who selfishly put other motorists at risk during rush hour.

"I am pleased he has been jailed and handed a lengthy disqualification for his actions.

"We are determined to keep Staffordshire's road network safe and will do all we can to bring those who risk public safety before the courts."
