‘Having someone to talk to can make all the difference’- New crisis café opens in Stafford

A new community-based crisis café, aiming to support local people struggling with their mental health and wellbeing, has opened in Stafford.

The Connection Point café is based out of House of Bread's Café 43 drop-in.

It aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment for people in crisis, feeling distressed or who just need someone to talk to.

The service is being provided by Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) in partnership with social enterprise organisation Turning Point.

Open to those aged 18 and over, the café is staffed by Turning Point recovery workers trained in mental health support, working alongside MPFT's Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment and House of Bread volunteers.

Anyone visiting the café can expect to receive support in a safe, inclusive and non-judgemental environment.

Practical support and signposting will be offered if needed.

Jennie Collier, Managing Director of MPFT's Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Care Group said: "We're really pleased to be working with Turning Point to offer this really important provision for the local community in Stafford.

"We're also grateful to be partnering with the House of Bread who have kindly enabled this valuable new facility to be based at Café 43 in town.

"Crisis Cafés help bring the NHS 10 Year Plan for health to life by providing local, community-based support and focusing on preventing problems before they escalate.

"Sometimes, having someone to talk to can make all the difference.

"Connection Point @ Café 43 offers a welcoming space where people can be listened to and supported when they're struggling with their mental health."

Lisa Kearney, Regional Nursing and Operational Manager, said: "Turning Point are genuinely excited to open this new non-clinical, community service for the people of Stafford in partnership with MPFT and the House of Bread.

"We have seen the positive impact of the Crisis Café model in other areas, supporting individuals during times of crisis.

"We look forward to welcoming people into the space, where our compassionate team can offer person-centred support to help individuals navigate their challenges.

"Visitors can drop in without an appointment or call ahead to book.
