Delays are expected between Birmingham New Street and Stafford following a points failure between Wolverhampton and Stafford earlier today (20 May).

Disruption is now expected to last until 11:00am as delays continue longer than initially predicted.

It was announced that lines had reopened at around 8:50am.

As services will need time to recover, trains running through between Birmingham New Street and Stafford may continue to be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes, diverted or revised.

Services that are affected by the disruption:

  • Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly / Liverpool Lime Street / Lancaster / Glasgow Central / Edinburgh, and also between Birmingham New Street and Crewe / Glasgow Central
  • CrossCountry between Paignton / Bournemouth / Southampton Central / Bristol Temple Meads / Birmingham New Street
  • London Northwestern Railway between Birmingham New Street and Liverpool Lime Street

Advice for Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and London Northwestern Railway customers can be found by visiting the National Rail website.

Customers may be entitled to compensation if their journey is delayed and anyone travelling today can check their train by using the National Rail Journey Planner.
