Crews were called to extinguish a large fire at Cannock Chase on Thursday (30 July) thought to have been caused by a disposable barbecue.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at around 6pm following reports of a fire.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was also at the scene.

Five appliances attended the incident with crews working to extinguish a large fire involving heathland and moorland.

Group Manager Rich Williams, who was part of the team at the scene, said: "We believe this fire was caused by a disposable barbecue, which are banned on Cannock Chase due to the dangers that they pose.

"It is absolutely crucial that people adhere to this ban, as incidents like this place significant demand on resources during an already very busy period."
