A Penkridge boy has received a special commendation from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service's Chief Fire Officer after his heroic behaviour during a fire in his family home.
On 1 September, Harrison Bruce, aged 10, discovered that a tumble dryer had caused a fire inside his home.
Harrison quickly told his mum, who was then able to evacuate his brothers and sisters.
Remaining calm, he then phoned 999 and provided fire control operators with clear and accurate information including his full address, details of the fire and confirmation that he and his family had evacuated the home.
On 28 September, Chief Fire Officer, Glynn Luznyj, presented Harrison with a special commendation during a ceremony at Cannock Community Fire Station.
The Chief Fire Officer said: "Harrison's quick thinking, maturity and effective communication provided crews with a clear understanding of the incident before their arrival and contributed significantly to the safe outcome of the event.
"His action demonstrated exceptional courage, responsibility and awareness, serving as an excellent example to others."
